SSE Pacifico joins the Japan Climate Leaders Partnership (JCLP), a group of companies committed to realising a sustainable decarbonised society

19 Aug 2022

SSE Pacifico K.K. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Mike Seaton, President & CEO; hereinafter "SSE Pacifico") has joined the Japan Climate Leaders Partnership (Secretariat: Hayama-cho, Miura-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture; within the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies; hereinafter "JCLP") as a Supporting Member.

The JCLP was set up in 2009 as a coalition of businesses in Japan, built on the idea that the business sector should develop a sound sense of urgency and proactively take actions to achieve decarbonisation. The number of the membership companies is 217 as of August 2022, including leading Japanese entities from a wide range of industries.

SSE Pacifico was formed in October 2021 to deliver offshore wind projects in Japan. SSE Pacifico is a Joint Ownership Company between SSE Renewables, part of the integrated UK-listed energy group SSE, and Pacifico Energy, one of Japan’s largest developers of renewable energy.

SSE accelerates decarbonisation as a clean energy champion. In 2021, SSE played a major partner to the UK Government at the COP26, taken place in Glasgow. In 2022, SSE announced a £12.5 billion (net) capital investment plan to accelerate progress towards net zero. Pacifico Energy, one of Japan's largest developers of renewable energy, has joined the JCLP in February 2021 and is actively working with the JCLP to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SSE Pacifico has joined the JCLP in line with both companies' visions of decarbonisation and in support of the objectives of the JCLP's activities.

By joining the JCLP, SSE Pacifico is determined to demonstrate its willingness and actions to support the realisation of a decarbonised society consistent with the Paris Agreement, and to contribute to international and regional sustainable development through its own decarbonisation practices.
